History

The name of the village Staniszcze Małe comes from the name Stanis. This is confirmed by Heinrich Adamy in his work entitled “Die Schlesichen Ortsnamen ihre Entstehung und Bedutung”. This is confirmed by Heinrich Adamy in his work entitled “Die Schlesichen Ortsnamen ihre Entstehung und Bedeutung”, where he states that the village Staniszcze was named after a surname. The name Stanis appears in documents for the first time already in 1204 by the name of Stanisz, who was a guest during the enumeration of subjects of the Trzenice Monastery, by the Duke Henry the Bearded. At the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries the knight Frederick de Stanisz was the owner of the village. Staniszcze Małe is a smaller village in terms of territory than Staniszcze Wielkie, hence the name Staniszcze Małe, but in terms of the number of inhabitants and dwelling houses it surpasses Staniszcze Wilkie.
In his chronicle Michał Pakosz writes that Staniszcze was already located on maps in 1234, whereas Jerzy Viola states that Staniszcze existed already in 1220. A legend is passed among the inhabitants of Staniszcze Małe, about heavy fighting between the Mongolian army (commonly called Tartars) and the army of Silesian Princess Jadwiga in 1241 behind “Magdowa Góra”, along the road to Krasiejów. Staniszcze was counted among the knightly villages. After the Tartar invasion, Duchess Jadwiga brought settlers from the West to these lands, who were mostly forest workers. Staniszcze Małe, as a settlement, belonged to Philip Colonna, the Count from Strzelce Opolskie, for 40 years, from 1760 to 1800. In 1816 a decree was issued granting the land to peasants. In 1822 the inhabitants had to give away their children in kind. In 1819 the first Catholic school was built, covered with shingles. It had one class and two rooms. The railway Opole – Tarnowskie Góry was established in 1858. It divided the village into two parts: lower and upper. The lower part was inhabited by peasants, and the upper part by craftsmen and cottagers. After a few years of running trains, it was forbidden to stop at the station in Staniszcze Male due to the lack of passengers. It was not until 1905 that trains started to stop at the station. As a result, the bridge was moved from the place near Mr. T. Manczyk’s estate to its present location in order to facilitate the transport of goods to Dobrodzieno. The biggest disasters were caused by the Mała Panew River. The biggest flood took place in 1905, the water reached the place where now stands the chapel of St. Urban. The chapel was built in 1903 under the invocation of St. Nepomucen, patron of disasters. Number of inhabitants in individual years: 1790 r. – 358 people (Staniszcze Wielkie and Kolonowskie 481 people) 1890. – 817 inhabitants, 112 houses (815 Catholics, 2 Evangelicals), 1939. – 1026 residents, 1960 over 1200 residents, 2006 – Around 700 inhabitants.
